Painted this view of Woolverstone Church, in Suffolk, for Jenny. Really pleased with the light and shade in it. In acrylics again, on canvas board, and 20" x 16". Great little church.
Helpringham War Memorial and Church - February 2021
Here is my third painting of Helpringham in the snow. This shows the village from the East side, looking past the war memorial to the church. It is the same size as the last one 12" x 16" in acrylics. Hope you like it :)
So pleased so many people liked my recent painting of snow on the fen. Just finished my second painting of Helpringham village in the recent snow. This is an acrylic painting 12" x 16", looking east towards the 14th century church. Tried to capture the essence of the light and shadows contrasting on the slushy road. Hope you like it :)
Couldn't let the snow melt away without doing some painting. Here is my first one, painted from photos on this occasion (because it was flippin' cold out there). It is a smallish oil and acrylic study of a view across the Lincolnshire fen outside Helpringham, where I walk my dogs. Hope you like it.
A very large canvas in acrylics and oils capturing a glorious day towards the Orwell Bridge near Ipswich. I couldn't resist the stunning cloud formations.
An acrylic painting of this thatched church in East Anglia. A commission for Robyn, a gift for her grandparents, 20" x 16" in acrylics on canvas board.
A view from the old pavilion at RHS towards the main school block as a cricket match took place. I was fascinated by the rich greens of the school field punctuated by the cricket whites and sightscreen and juxtaposed with the powerful clouds moving across the scene. Sold.
This second image in my ‘traffic’ series is also created using a painting knife from photographs obtained in similar fashion. I have tried to capture the play of light in a night time motorway scene near London while exploring the textures achievable through the use of a painting knife.
'Scrivs' was the friendly village shop run by Ian and Sam Scrivener. It was regarded by many as the heart of Holbrook village. Sadly it has closed down, another victim of the recession.
I parked my car behind me while I painted this scene showing the view towards the river in Shotley so that I wouldn't be run over by passing motorists as I sat with my easel in the road.
This view of the school clocktower fascinated me for many months so eventually I recorded my impression of it in this large acrylic study which also took several months to complete. The clock had stopped so the time shown does not relate to the time of day depicted.
An acrylic study carried out en plein air showing the river shore near Holbrook Creek. Just managed to complete it before the rain arrived. There are rain drop marks discernible to prove it!
The Church at Kirkby-La-Thorpe with Sheep in the Foreground Sept 2019
Painted this commission for David and Julia. It depicts the church at Kirkby-La-Thorpe with sheep grazing in the foreground. 70cm x 50cm in acrylics on board. Really pleased with it.
